Orange shirt day is an opportunity for Indigenous people, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. Orange Shirt Day at Hillcrest is on Friday September 28th. If your child does not have an orange shirt, anything orange if fine.

Terry Fox Run
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Terry Fox Run last week. Thanks also to Div 6, Mrs. Housden and Mrs. Larmand for organizing this event for us. If you haven’t had a chance to bring in a donation there is still time. Money will be collected until the end of this week (Sept 28).
Brain Bikes
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm who delivered 10 stationary bikes to our school as part of the Exercise2Learn program. These bikes can be found throughout the school in the hallway and various classrooms. Thanks also goes out to our PAC for their contribution to the costs of the 10 bikes.

Complete Canadian Anti-Spam Form (CASL)
As a result, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), our school must now obtain your specific consent to be able to send you newsletters, announcements, and other electronic messages which may contain advertising or promotions including requests for field trips, fundraising, yearbooks, student pictures, dance tickets, or other similar events and offers. Follow the instructions below if you wish to receive this type of communication. This permission is required once per school.
- Click on the “Profile Tab” tab and Select “Basic Demographics”.
- Click the “Edit” button for the guardian email address you would like to approve for School District 83 email messages. The detailed demographic info will appear on the right of the guardian list.
- Select “Yes” in the “Consent to Commercial Email” checkbox and click “Save”.
Adams River Field Trip – Permission Form
On Monday October 1, 2018 students in Divisions 1 through 12 will be travelling to Adams River at Tsútswecw Provincial Park (Roderick Haig-Brown) to participate in the 2018 Salute to the Sockeye Interpretive Program.

City of SA – Recreation Society Survey
Below is a link to a survey that the City of Salmon Arm and Shuswap Recreation Society has asked us to distribute to all members of the Shuswap Region to get lots of community feedback and information to assist them in developing a Shuswap Recreation Campus Plan, the survey is open until the end of September. The Recreation Campus Plan decisions will certainly impact our community and our students.
The survey takes about 10 minutes to fill out. On behalf of the City of Salmon Arm we thank you in advance for considering this survey.

Terry Fox Run
The Hillcrest School annual Terry Fox run will be Thursday, September 20th at 1:00 p.m. Students are welcome to bring money donations for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research if they would like. Money, in the form of cheques, bills and change, is welcome, as we will try to overflow the tall glass jar near the office with all of the donations!

Welcome Back – Week at a Glance
Welcome back everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Our staff have been busy over the past couple weeks getting their classrooms set up and ready for your children on Tuesday Sept 4th. (Kindergarten Students start on Wednesday Sept 5th). Don’t forget that there is an early dismissal on Tuesday Sept 4th @ 11:05am.
