Dec 19th, 2018
Dear Students and Parents:
Many of you choose to honour staff at Christmas with a small gift of appreciation which is gratefully received and brings warm moments to our classrooms.
We would like to continue the direction we set for several years by giving students and parents a different way of showing how much you care. For some years, the staff at Hillcrest has sponsored two students in Kenya, Africa, through the Canadian Harambee Education Society. CHES was started by Canadians to help girls in Africa who have no opportunity to attend school. Headquarters are located in New Westminster, BC. The cost to send one boarding student to school for a year is $600. The program continues to be in need of help.
Over the years, your response has been so encouraging we will continue to sponsor a student. Our current student, Millicent Atsieno, would not be going to school without our support!
Instead of a personal gift, consider sending a card to your teacher with a small donation. If you are writing a cheque, please make it payable to “Hillcrest School” (one cheque will be sent to CHES from the school). One option would be for the student to make a card if they feel the need to make it more personal to their teacher! ALL donations to CHES go directly to educating a student, as the organization has its own fundraisers to administer their program.
** We hope everyone has a lovely Holiday Season! **

School doors will open at 6:10pm on the night of the concert. Students are to access their regular outside classroom door. Parents come through the main front doors of the gym – the front doors will be open at 6:10pm (parents may leave your boots on in the gym). There will be no reserve seating. Please do not arrive too early, as it may be cold waiting outside. Parking is difficult on concert nights, so we encourage any relatives/friends who are able to attend the afternoon concert to do so.
“How to train your Reindeer (to fly)” will run from 1:00 to 1:45 in the afternoon and 6:30 to 7:15 in the evening. Your child will be on stage for the entire concert, and will return to their classroom following the performance, where they can be picked up. Please be sure to pick up your child before heading to the book fair.
Donations of non-perishable food will be collected during the week prior to the concert and at the concert door for those who wish to donate. Also, the PAC will be selling tickets for the “Best Seats in the House” before the evening performances. The money collected from this fundraiser will be used to support our music program. We look forward to seeing you at your child’s concert(s)!
Our Grade 5 Students have been working hard to put together a music video for the #CBCMusicClass contest. Thank you to Mr. Roberts for creating this excellent learning opportunity for our students.
