We are very excited this week to be welcoming all of our families to our Family Math Night planned for Tuesday March 10 from 5:30-6:30pm. This evening will be a great opportunity to show our students that learning is truly a community endeavor.

Grade 3, 4 and 5 students got to attend an assembly on Friday March 6 at SMS to kick off the Hometown Hockey celebrations in Salmon Arm this weekend. It was an afternoon full of fun, entertainment and inspirational stories, including a very important message from Mr. Harrison on being humble and working as a team. Don’t forget to check out the many different events and activities taking place at Marine Park this weekend as part of the Hometown Hockey Celebration.

Over 350 students from around the district participated in the annual SD83 Art Fair this year. Above are some photos of our students attending the sessions held on Wednesday this week at Piccadilly Mall. Thank you to all of our parents who helped drive and supervise students during their sessions and a huge thank you to Mrs. Matuga for coordinating our team of students to attend.
A huge thank you to our instructors from Momentum Gymnastics for a fantastic gymnastics program again this year. Our students had a wonderful time and should be proud of the significant improvement they made in such a short time. Thanks to the sponsorship/support of our PAC, each class received 4 lessons over the past 2 weeks.
Story Time Theatre was at Hillcrest last week as one of our Cultural Assemblies for the year. The performers outstanding use of simple costumes, sets, and props showed our students how, with the help of their imagination, they too can express themselves both creatively and socially. This interactive show reminded us all of the power of stories and that we all have a story to tell.
Have you been searching for that long lost glove to complete your child’s matching set? How about your child’s favorite toque, sweater, snow pants, or even jacket? Chances are your missing stuff has been hiding in our Lost and Found for the past few weeks. As our Lost and Found bin is currently overflowing, we have spread it out in our main hallway outside the library so that you have take one last look for any missing items before we take these items to the Thrift Store on Friday March 13. For the past two months students in our grade 2 and 3 classes have been participating in weekly Secwepemc Language and Cultural lessons with our SD83 Secwepemc Language Teacher, Sandra Eustache (Auntie T). Kukwstsétsemc (thank you) to Sandra for providing such a valuable learning experience for our students.
Last week our intermediate classes participated in two Games days hosted in the Library with Wilf Pauls (retired teacher/librarian). Students participating learnt how to play Sjoelbak, Pitchnut, Crokinole and Table Hockey. Thank you to Mrs. Reed for organizing this super fun activity for our students.
Thank to you Mrs. Menzies and our grade 5 leadership students for hosting a Kindergarten Fun Fair at lunch a few weeks ago. Both the grade 5’s and our Kindergarten students had a blast!
Below is a link to our Week at a Glance for the week of March 2, 2020. Thank you to everyone who came out to our PAC sponsored Free Family Movie night on Friday. In total, our grade 5 leadership students raised over $150 for Australian Wildfire Relief through their popcorn, chips, and water sales.
Students from Hillcrest will be heading to Piccadilly Mall on Wednesday March 4 for a variety of art workshops as part of the annual School District 83 Art Fair. A huge thank you to Mrs. Matuga for organizing all of our students to attend!
Don’t forget to make a trip to the mall this week to check out the fabulous Hillcrest Art Board display in person!
Hometown Hockey events will be taking place this weekend (March 6-8) in Salmon Arm. To show our support students will be encouraged to wear a jersey again on Friday March 6 for Jersey Day. Students in grade 3-5 will also be attending a Hometown Hockey Assembly at SMS on Friday afternoon. Go Salmon Arm go!
