A huge thank you goes out to Allison McNally, who presented Hillcrest with another generous donation last week for our Art Program. Over the past few years Allison has donated $880.25 to Hillcrest for the purchase for art supplies. The funds were raised as part of Allison’s annual Art Auction held at the West Gate Market. Allison was hoping to hold the auction last spring, however, due to COVID she was forced to postpone and modify the annual event. Allison currently attends Shuswap Middle School as a grade 6 student.
Below is a link to our Week at a Glance for the week of Dec 14, 2020. Thank you everyone who is participating in some of the Festive Leadership Activities our Grade 5’s have planned for us this week. Don’t forget to bring your donations for the Food Drive by Wednesday Dec 16!
Dear Parents and Guardians of Students in Grades 5 and 8,
Once again, School District No. 83 has partnered with the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at UBC to invite Grades 5 and 8 students to take part in completing the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI). The MDI is a self-report questionnaire that asks children about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school and in the community. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education’s K-12 curriculum which includes a focus on promoting children’s personal and social competencies.
In previous years, students in Grades 4 and 7 have completed the questionnaire but this year, our district will be inviting students in Grades 5 and 8, so there is not overlap with the Grade 4 and 7 FSA assessments.
The questionnaire will be administered between January 11th and March 5th, 2021 at your child’s school.
An informed passive consent letter was emailed to you in November. The MDI is voluntary; your child can choose whether they would like to complete the questionnaire.

A (non-edible) Gingerbread House Building Contest
Bring your own NON-EDIBLE Gingerbread House! That’s right, we don’t want to leave food in the hallway on display. So you could use:

An Ornament Making Contest
Design and make your own ornament that we can display on the Hillcrest Tree by the office! You can use the same supplies as above! You may begin hanging your ornaments on the tree on Monday Dec 14. They will be judged on Wednesday Dec 16. Good luck and have fun!
Ugly Christmas Sweater Day
On Wednesday Dec 16, show your festive spirit by wearing your favourite Christmas sweater! Bright, bold, tacky, embellished – the more the merrier! Students will also be participating in games with their class – this may take may different forms so please wait for further information from your child’s teacher.
Our annual Food Drive has begun! Students are encouraged to bring non-perishable items or cash donations to their class collection containers. All items collected will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The last day to bring in items will be Wednesday Dec 16. Thank you to Mr. Smith’s class for coordinating our food drive this year.
In place of our annual winter concert our grade 4 and 5 students were making a movie last week under the dirction of Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Menzies, and local film maker Steven Ingle!
