Pink Shirt Day

pinkshirtday_FINALDon’t forget to wear PINK on Wednesday February 26 in recognition of Pink Shirt Day. Take your kindness to new heights! This Pink Shirt Day, and every day, let’s Lift Each Other Up.

The theme for this year’s Pink Shirt Day is “Lift each other up”; a simple but powerful message encouraging us to look beyond our differences and celebrate the things that make us unique. When we lift each other up, we see past the things that separate us and see instead the things that unite us as people.

Wheelchairs at Hillcrest

activitymore-005209D0-856A-49FA-AE9F-C12BE8D0B141

Hillcrest students have been having a blast learning how to use the SD83 set of sport wheelchairs over the past few weeks.

Today, some of our classes were lucky enough to meet Lily Brook, a wheelchair athlete (and student at Jackson). Before playing a game of wheelchair basketball, Lily talked to our students about her experiences participating in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair boxing and sit skiing. We wish Lily the best of luck as she heads to Fort St. John next week to compete as a member of the Zone 2 (Kamloops) wheelchair basketball team in the BC Winter Games!

Having the wheelchairs at Hillcrest has been a fantastic experience for our students. A huge thank you goes out to Laura Paiement (SD83 Healthy Schools Coordinator) for bringing the wheelchairs to our district!

Draw Night at Silverbacks Game

Salmon Arm area schools have been participating in a Math Problem of the Week challenge over the past month. Basically, the more problems our students complete the better chance we have of winning!

SilverbacksIn support of this friendly competition the Salmon Arm Silverbacks are offering Free Admission to any student accompanied by a paying adult for their home game against West Kelowna on Wednesday Feb 12. Tickets can be purchased/picked up at the Silverbacks Box Office or from Maximum Edge. A draw will be made during the game to determine the winning school.

As a follow up to this event, the winning school will also be recognized during the Hometown Hockey Assembly at Shuswap Middle School on Friday March 6.  Congratulations to all of our Hillcrest students for their efforts and participation in the Math Problems of the Week over the past month.
